About
Victoria Lavington is an actress/singer-songwriter turned Speech- Language Pathologist, wife, and mother of 16-month-old daughter Sylvia. Born in England and raised in Virginia, Victoria has been a New Yorker for 10 years and now calls Brooklyn home. She was formerly one half of the folk duo Molly Pitcher, which released the critically acclaimed CD “Watching the Rain” and was selected to perform in the prestigious emerging artist showcases at both the Falcon Ridge and Kerrville Folk Festivals in 2002. Victoria subsequently took time off from performing to finish her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and then later to take care of her newborn daughter.
Just as she was beginning to focus on music again and prepare herself for a return to performance, Victoria was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. She underwent a bilateral mastectomy, which revealed that her cancer was one of the most aggressive forms of the disease, with a high chance of reoccurrence. Therefore, in addition to traditional treatment, she has opted to pursue emerging, more experimental treatments as well. These include immunotherapy using vaccines formulated from her own blood, as well as nutritional therapies aimed at rebuilding her immune system after it has been depleted by the chemotherapy and radiation treatments that she must undergo. Unfortunately, these cutting-edge treatments are not covered by health insurance.
Victoria has transformed her initial devastation into determination, and she is focusing on her recovery from this disease with strength, resilience, and grace. She is particularly grateful to her many singer-songwriter friends who have rallied around her and organized a benefit concert to help her and her family deal with the considerable financial strain that pursuing non-traditional therapies presents.
A Concert for Victoria was held at the Christopher Street Coffeehouse, 81 Christopher Street, NYC on Wednesday, February 24th. Please consider purchasing a DVD of the event buy clicking "BUY DVD" buttons.
