Victoria Lavington
Drawing inspiration from both her native England and her teenage years in Virginia, Victoria Lavington tells touching and personal stories in a fusion of Elizabethan ballads and jazz-tinged laments. Victoria, previously one half of the folk duo “Molly Pitcher,” enjoyed a five-year partnership with fellow singer/songwriter Rebekah Fischman. In July of 2001, one year after meeting, Victoria and Rebekah released their first CD “Watching the Rain.” Produced by “Molly Pitcher” and Wade Tonken, “Watching the Rain” was included in Performing Songwriter Magazine’s top twelve “Do it Yourself” albums for January/February of 2002. In the months that followed, “Molly Pitcher” was among 32 finalists chosen from 600 applicants to perform at the Kerrville Folk Festival’s “New Folk” contest established by Peter Yarrow in 1973. They were also invited to showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and Songwriter Hall of Fame. “Molly Pitcher” performed regularly at New York City’s premier acoustic venues The Living Room, Makor, The Bitter End, SUN music company and Columbia University’s legendary Postcrypt Coffeehouse. On the road, Molly Pitcher’s performances included Fire & Water, (Northampton, MA) Grace Coffeehouse, (Wyckoff, NJ) Mary’s Place (Haddon Heights, NJ) and Sweet Dreams Café (Madison, NJ).
Victoria took a two-year hiatus from music to complete a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and now happily incorporates her gift for song as a voice disorders specialist at a premier Manhattan voice disorders clinic. However, the itch to perform has returned and Victoria is back in action again as part of the female singer/songwriter collective “Maggie’s Music Salon,” (www.maggiesmusicsalon.com) as well as the newly formed group “Quelles Sauvage,” (www.myspace.com/quellessauvages) who’s motto is “If it’s weird we’ll do it.” Victoria recently starred in the critically acclaimed off-off Broadway musical “1918: A House Divided” www.myspace.com/1918themusical. In addition, Victoria is making her solo debut with an EP entitled “Made for Roses” which is currently in production with Mike Visceglia (Suzanne Vega) and Rob Freidman (Dan Zanes) at the helm. The album also features Jerry Morotta (Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Indigo Girls) on drums and longtime friend Cheryl Prashker on percussion. It is expected to be released in the fall of 2007.
